Program Manager - Aviation

Astrophysics Inc. is a leading global designer and manufacturer of X-Ray security inspection systems. We currently have an immediate full-time position opening for a Program Manager located in City of Industry, California.

Job Summary:

The Program Manager is responsible for all aspects of program delivery in the aviation market, including both aviation checkpoint and checked baggage air cargo inspection. This position will design, implement, and facilitate the program deliverables in the aviation market, both in the U.S. and globally. Primary responsibilities include managing existing government programs, maintaining and expanding our product regulatory compliance, leading aviation product management, and identifying and driving Astrophysics participation in Government funding for Research and Development.

Essential Functions:

Existing Government Programs:

Management of all existing Government contracts and programs.

  • Create a Management plan encompassing all necessary processes to comply with program requirements, including, but not limited to;
  1. Establishing objectives and clear program deliverables
  2. Tracking program costs
  3. Creating master schedule
  4. Identifying milestones and payment schedule
  5. Coordinating with relevant Astrophysics departments (Engineering, Service, Accounting, Quality Engineering), and holding regular program review meetings to update project logistics, schedules, and objectives
  6. Ensuring early problem and risk assessment identification and implementing corrective action plans
  • Maintain and develop relationships with relevant Government administrators, including Contracting Officers
  • Prepare and deliver compelling reports, PMR's, and presentations to Contracting Officers and other Government personnel as required

Regulatory Compliance:

Maintaining and expanding our regulation compliance and certification in the U.S. and globally

  • Research and become an expert in compliance requirements for certification in all required countries and regions. Most notably, U.S., Canada, UK and Europe
  • Coordinate with Engineering to ensure our products comply with all current regulatory specifications, and alerting Management to any issues or anomalies
  • Prepare, submit and oversee the certification applications for new products
  • Monitor Government websites for notifications of updated requirements and maintaining product certificates and regulatory compliance requirements for existing machines

Product Management/ Research & Development

Lead aviation product management and Research and Development funding and solicitation efforts.

  • Interact with Sales, Marketing and Engineering departments to provide technical reports, periodicals, manuals, documents and presentations as needed
  • Assist in writing and managing patent applications
  • Identify sources of U.S. and international Government funding for product development in the Aviation sector
  • Write white papers and submissions for funding programs and grants
  • Review program proposals/plans to determine technical fit, business implications, and resources required
  • Participate in changes to statements of work, RFQs, RFPs
  • Assist with conceptual design, testing, validation, field pilot, acceptance testing, and documentation as necessary
  • Attend, present, and appropriately represent Astrophysics Inc. at industry events, tradeshows, and demonstrations to increase global brand and product awareness
  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4 year university, Master's degree preferred
  • 5-10 years' experience, x-ray/security field preferred
  • U.S. Citizenship and security clearance required
  • Military background a plus
  • Ability to travel 25% of time, including internationally
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex technical programs from concept to delivery in rapidly changing/fast paced environment
  • Dynamic orator and presenter
  • Excellent written and verbal English
